The Federal Government has declared Thursday as a public holiday to commemorate the 2025 Democracy Day celebration. This announcement was made in a statement by Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on Sunday in Abuja.
Ajani revealed that Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians for enjoying an uninterrupted 26 years of civil rule.
“June 12 represents our historic journey toward building a nation where truth and justice prevail, peace is maintained, and our future is secure,” he stated.
“The past 26 years reflect our resilience, strength, courage, and a renewed hope like never before,” he added. Tunji-Ojo reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope government to uphold the universal values of democracy, which are based on the freely expressed will of the people in shaping Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural systems.
