The Minister of Power, Mr Joseph Tegbe, assured Nigerians facing reduced electricity supply that normal service will be restored promptly.
Tegbe provided this assurance in a statement to reporters on Friday evening in Lagos.
He stated that electricity supply would soon improve in Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Kwara, and other affected areas, which had recently seen progress before the current disruptions.
The minister acknowledged the inconvenience to households, businesses, and public institutions, and noted that the government understands consumers’ frustration.
“We recognise what every hour without power means for individuals, families and businesses, and we do not take it lightly,” he said.
According to him, preliminary assessments indicate that no major or systemic failure of the national grid is causing the disruptions.
He attributed the outages to maintenance and operational challenges in the power sector, reduced electricity generation due to gas supply constraints at thermal stations, and lower water inflows at hydroelectric reservoirs.
“All of these are being addressed,” he said.
Tegbe said the ministry is working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), and electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to restore normal supply.
He added that he has engaged relevant operators to resolve operational challenges, accelerate maintenance, and keep consumers informed.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ongoing improvements in the power sector and to enhancing the reliability and quality of electricity supply nationwide.
He thanked Nigerians for their patience and understanding, and promised further updates as restoration progresses.
