The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based policymaking, effective planning, and results-oriented implementation.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, made this statement at the 2026 National Association of Evaluators Conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
Bagudu described evaluation as essential for turning Nigeria’s development goals into real improvements in citizens’ lives.
He urged stakeholders to ensure development plans deliver measurable, sustainable results beyond policy formulation.
The Minister stated that this ministry supports Nigeria’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also emphasised the importance of implementing the National Development Plan (NDP) 2026–2030 effectively.
He noted that achieving these national goals requires ongoing commitment to implementation and strategic resource allocation.
He stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda and other national priorities require effective institutions, coordinated implementation, and clear outcomes.
“For these interventions to deliver sustainable results, they must reflect local circumstances, complement existing investments and address genuine development needs,” he said.
Bagudu coBagudu commended the National Association of Evaluators for fostering constructive engagement on evaluation and national development. He said the conference would help strengthen the country’s ability to turn development priorities into meaningful, sustainable results. The Minister called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders and citizens to improve development planning and implementation.
He emphasised that accountability and measurable outcomes are essential for improving the quality of evidence in decision-making.
Bagudu said effective evaluation will help ensure development interventions meet citizens’ needs and deliver sustainable benefits.
