Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Johnny Agim, has established the Johnny Agim SAN Foundation to create a network of 500 young lawyers who will drive positive change in Nigeria’s legal profession and judiciary while promoting excellence and reform.

The foundation seeks to establish a lasting legacy of strong institutions for reforming and repositioning the legal profession in Nigeria. It is based on three pillars: mentorship, sponsorship of indigent lawyers, legal service reforms and public interest advocacy.

During the inaugural meeting in Abuja, Agim emphasized the importance of strategic sponsorship and mentorship in shaping professional identity in the legal profession. He stated that as a legal practitioner and advocate for legal reform, he is passionate about preparing generations of young lawyers for excellence. He hopes to see them become institutions in themselves by exploring innovative approaches to mentorship and sponsorship.

Agim announced that 11 law students, selected from applications received by the foundation, would be added to the “Legacy 500 Elite Mentorship” program. He invited Nigerians interested in effecting change to join him in bringing about change in the legal and other professions.

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Justice Kanu Agabi, SAN, commended Agim’s charitable vision and initiative and urged others to follow his example. The event also included the inauguration of the JASAN Foundation One Billion Naira Endowment Fund and unveiling the foundation’s trans-generational institutional logo. The event, titled “The Future of Law and Professional Identity Formation: The Role of Strategic Sponsorship & Mentorship” (The Legacy Dialogue 1.0), featured a panel discussion by legal luminaries in Nigeria.
