The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovered 15,000 Pregabalin tablets allegedly in his possession.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Katsina.

Sadiq-Aliyu said Central Market Division operatives arrested the suspect, Junaidu Rabi’u, on Oct. 17 at about 6:30 p.m. following credible intelligence.

He explained that the arrest was based on information received by the division at about 5:30 p.m. regarding a suspect transporting a large quantity of illicit drugs.

According to him, a search of the suspect resulted in the recovery of 15,000 Pregabalin tablets, packaged in 1,000 sachets.

The PPRO stated that preliminary investigation showed the suspect confessed to the offence, claiming that Nafi’u, who is currently at large, contracted him to receive and transport the consignment. He added that efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplice are ongoing and that the arrested suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The spokesperson quoted Commissioner of Police Ali Umar-Fage, who commended the operatives for their prompt action and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.

The commissioner also thanked residents for their continued support in providing useful information to security personnel and encouraged them to maintain this cooperation.
